Maverick Wild update…
I’d like to apologize to everyone here for my lack of attention to the site the last couple of weeks. There have been a couple of injuries that have really kept me occupied. This is going to be a long post. Don’t worry-it’s not a “we’re closing shop” post-just an update. This last year in fact has been our best year.
First and foremost-as some of you know but many of you don’t, my main line of work is running a moderately sized commercial roofing company (Multi State Roofing) that my father started almost 40 years ago. Just as lots of other companies out there, we’ve seen our share of troubles in these tough financial times. We’ve gone from around 36 field employees and 9 office employees all the way down to 12 field guys and 6 full time office people, with my dear wife working part time or even off the clock. Through the hard work and dedication of that remaining core, we’ve managed to lean the company down and work our way back up to 20 guys in the field as of this writing and still hiring more. So, while no one is out of this storm right now…we’ve come back from a financially down position and are back in a more positive position. In fact, the roofing company is getting quite busy-so the first injury I’m going to expound is to one of my office help rather than myself.
My office manager (Danielle) who’s duties entail filing taxes, accounts payable and receivable (which is quite complicated in the construction injury) was recently injured when someone (who at best could be described as a moron) tried to pass someone he thought was going too slow on a blind hairpin turn and hit Danni head on at about 40 mph in a 20 mph zone. She had to be med flighted out the accident was so bad. She survived, but received several injuries-the most serious being that her right foot was severely damaged and her ankle broken. The ankle is going to have to be fused and the entire foot rebuilt. There are enough breaks and damage that the bone structure of her heel is now mashed into the front of her foot.
Most importantly, I like to think I put quality people around me (to make up for my own shortcomings). Danni is an intelligent, extremely caring, extremely dedicated hard working single mom and our top thought around the roofing company. Unfortunately and especially in these hard times however, there are pragmatic things to address with the problems caused to my company with her absence (slated to be another 3 months). My wife has had to assume all of Danni’s duties in addition to her own (which include secretarial duties, contract review, filing writing proposals/letters and various other jobs) on top of caring for our two kids and making up for my slovenly @ss. This is all after she just lost her father (another super person; she came from good stock) after a long battle with cancer. My wife is pretty much a 5’2” superwoman and how she is currently keeping her sanity is beyond me. It always amazes me to watch her in action makes me realize how lucky I am and while I am always cognizant of the fact I made a good choice…no one could have hit the mark as well as I did (if you’re reading this babe…I love you and I’d be a wreck without you).
All this of course has also added to my own workload. We’re getting though; us Despres are made of tough stuff. I recently injured my back however-which would explain why the Rochester crowd got to see the debut of Maverick Wild, ring announcer. Now, I’ve been wrestling for 20 years, so injuries are nothing new…but the back injury still hasn’t been definitely diagnosed. My doctor currently thinks we may be dealing with a compression fracture, which could be serious. I know it’s caused some unbelievable spasms; hopefully a MRI on June 24th can pinpoint the problem. It’s kept me at the doctor’s office a lot recently though…stealing valuable time that I can’t really spare from an already stretched thin office. It’s also kept me on some pain medication that I take during periods where I would normally address wrestling stuff, including writing here. I’m confusing enough…subjecting people to my enhanced light headed ramblings would be counterproductive (amusing perhaps, but counterproductive).
I’d like to thank everyone for bearing with me; from fans, to wrestlers stepping up and running the gym when I can’t attend and train younger guys and to some unnamed people who work their @ss off even under better circumstances to keep the shows going . Front Row Wrestling continues on due to their hard work and your dedication to what we do. Thank you for your support, and I’ll try not to keep everyone in the dark.
