I wish to warn all those thinking of attending our show on Friday (June 29th) in Rochester, NH. I am planning on addressing the crowd with the following statement...
My name is Scott Despres. I own and operate Front Row Wrestling. I also wrestle on the shows as Maverick Wild. The circumstances of this past week have prompted me to speak to you as myself.
In Wrestling, when one of our own dies, there is a long standing tradition of sounding the ring bell 10 times in remembrance of the departed. The last few weeks several prominent names in pro wrestling industry have left us. The losses of life over the past weeks have been obscured, however, do to the senseless and brutal crimes committed by Chris Benoit.
What this man did is reprehensible and inhumane. No amount of speculation over the state of his mind, the pressure he may have been under or the illegal substances he might have been on at the time excuses it. Tonight, the bell will toll ten times for Sherri Martel, a fantastic women wrestler who died two weeks ago. Tonight, the bell will toll for Daniel & Nancy Benoit, who were both cut down by a madman’s demented rage.
Tonight, no such bell will toll for Chris Benoit. As the owner of Front Row Wrestling, I have made a conscious decision to specifically exclude him from this traditional show of respect. For anyone who feels this may be inappropriate, please ask to speak to me directly before the start of the third match tonight. Regardless, I would ask that all in attendance please participate in a moment of silence while we ring the bell 10 times for Sherri Martel, Daniel & Nancy Benoit. I would encourage you all during this brief ceremony to think not only of them, but of loved ones you have lost and of those still with you.
